film review: yearning trifecta
this is all reworked from instagram story posts of each film, using googled images that have comparable widths for uniformity. i'll see how i feel about images in my posts at all. it's different. it'd be cool if i could upload my own sourced images, but i'm making do. i like visuals. and i'll do anything but log such things in letterboxd.

if the yearning isn't gut biome-wrenching, psyche-deconstructing, keeping you up at night, making you scream cry throw up (in the rain!) from depths you did not know could be unearthed from within that alchemized when you crossed paths with this specific person, and you're learning new words just to come as close as you can to describe the devastation when they're out of your line of sight, then why yearn?

if "boyhood" was good tbh. if "love in the time of cholera" had cell phones and contemporary nuances of work, class, historiographic setting; in other words, love simmering and pulling you back to your beloved across borders and societal/climate/technological shifts. you're still making sense of change and yourself but love that is unwavering persists and presents itself as a constant, erring minimal shifts relative to everything around you that shifts with you.
would rewatch. i feel like there's more to pick up with each watch because of the amount go archival footage put into it. (22 years!)

biblically accurate tumultuous situationship that finds itself between two hemispheres. when things are good, they're good. when they're not, it's trying trying trying to make it work. maybe it will this time. things would be clearer if intentions were honest, but saying the quiet part out loud is the hardest.
idk, he just does yearning very well. dare i say the overt pining rivals the asymptotic yearning in "in the mood for love"? maybe! it's two flavors of longing. seemingly reciprocal, but still out of reach.
