now playing, sort of
i listen to music too much for it to not be broadcasted!
i spent a bit today figuring out how to have some kind of widget embedded in a page, but no luck, at least in terms of what i'm looking for specifically. the options i saw were paywalled or not compatible with bearblog as well.
i wanted something straightforward. a list, or collage of albums or artists that auto-updates according to my listening report at the time of viewing, as web-accessible as possible. it seemed too sophisticated and like something i needed to code myself, which, at the moment, i don't have the time to build.
tapmusic.net's last.fm collage generator is my best bet at the moment:
- it's free to use.
- it seems to be in sync with my last.fm listening charts via scripting, rather than as a static image i have to generate each time.
- i can generate a chart displaying what i've been listening to for the past week, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, or overall--all in line with last.fm's listening report categories.
- the caveat is having a last.fm account and enough of a backlog to be neatly collaged in a 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, or 10x10 image.
- last.fm's weekly listening reports update every friday around 15:00 UTC, according to last.fm support.
- above said, the albums still do update in real time as they do on last.fm's site.
embedding is simple and in line with bearblog's markdown cheatsheet. just generate chart, pull URL from address bar, insert, and voilà:

now you got yourself a generated chart of your most recently streamed albums, scripted.
there is a way to include artist and album names, and playcounts, but the text is nearly unreadable at times over anything that isn't a solid, dark color. i also can't seem to have just the playcount displayed without including artist/album names. thus, i'll just have the album covers displayed. reverse image search is a good way to look up an album without discernible text. (or you can ask me!)
my chart is set to show my 16 most streamed albums in the past 7 days. it can be viewed here as well as in my navigation bar above.
